  • Systems

    I have built many systems for personal and professional uses. Examples of professional work stations include video and audio, desktop publishing, game development and CAD as well as turn key systems for small business.

    Two recent systems are: first the raveOmatic, a PC based live video mixing machine for live performances. It can mix and manipulate on the fly many media types including still images, video clips and has two live firewire based camera feeds. The system was built with the latest pro-sumer components (as of summer '07) and uses many open source programs like Gephex, ProjectM, PureData (and GEM);

    and second, a turnkey system for a small production and retail based business that includes tools for inventory control and sales, contact management, payroll and bookkeeping and in house graphics. To make this system sweeter, it uses 100% open source software.

  • Installations

    Networks. I have set up a number of networks, the largest with about 25 computer mixed with Macintosh, Windows and Linux. In some cases I only handled one aspect and in others all - planning, costs and purchasing, installing hardware and cabling, installing network services (shares, printers, databases, LDAP, email and local web services). I've also set up a couple in-house public web servers.

    Lighting. Planning and costs as well as installing systems for small theaters and galleries. Though I'm not an electrician, I can do most wiring to code and can recognise when it's important to have an electrician involved. I'm familiar with some of the available automated lighting systems.

    Sound and video. Again, planning and costs as well as installing systems for small theaters and galleries. I have built permanent installations as well as set up single and multichannel stages for live performances. Both playback and recording

  • Technical Support

    I am well versed in Macintosh, Windows and Linux platforms and have experience with a plethora of applications ranging from creative apps like sound, video and graphics to business apps and services like databases, word processors and network services. Though I prefer to be productive, I'm always happy to share the knowledge.

    Many of my past projects have required me to first develop and build a system, give instruction in it's use and then later provide technical support.

  • Pre-Technology Civilisation

    I'm a farm boy. In my earlier years worked on horse farms, landscaping, construction and even a little commercial fishing (if there were any fish it's likely I would still be doing this).
